Shah Abd al-Aziz Muhaddith Dihlawi was a renowned scholar born in Delhi in 1745. His father and his father’s famous students, including Shah Muhammad Ashiq and Mawlana Khwaja Aminullah, educated him. He excelled in the field of fiqh under his father-in-law Mawlana Nürullah and went on to succeed his father as the leading Muslim scholar of his time at the Madrasah Rahimiyyah in 1762.

Translated from Persian into Arabic and annotated by Mohammed Akram an-Nadwi, a prolific author and translator of over 25 titles on Islamic sciences and the Arabic language, this book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the rich tradition of Islamic scholarship. Dr. Akram joined the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies in 1991 as a research fellow and has taught Islamic sciences at Nadwat al-Ulama for six years.
