About the Author: Hans Wehr

Hans Bodo Wehr (1909–1981) was a distinguished German Arabist best known for compiling one of the most influential Arabic dictionaries of the modern era. Educated in Halle, Berlin, and Leipzig, Wehr dedicated his academic career to Arabic linguistics and lexicography. His original German dictionary, first published in 1952, laid the groundwork for what would later become the standard Arabic–English reference used worldwide.
